SPN was sadenned to hear about young Niamh's illness and would like to help to spread the word, in the hope that a liver donor can be found before it is to late for her.
Niamh was born with a rare bowel disorder. There was nothing that could be done immediately when she was born, so the doctors, nurses and consultants at Sheffield Children's hospital worked their magic and kept her alive.
They have to feed her through a tube all of her short 2 years of life and she has been hospital bound. She has never spent a night away from hospital. Unfortunately, as with all medical things, the medicines and TPN (Total parental nutrition) that is fed into her has seriously affected her liver which was an expected side effect. However, now she is critical and needs an urgent liver transplant in order to survive, therefore, the plea is for everyone to register themselves as donors and also, to bare Niamh in mind if, god forbid they are faced with the loss of a loved one, in order that maybe she can have a chance of life.
Thanks for your support, it really is overwhelming. Please pass the group request onto all of your friends so we can try and push this nationally and give Niamh the chance that every child deserves.
If you haven't already, it takes just a minute to register as a donor and you could help save a life. http://www.uktransplant.org.uk
